The chairman of the 2013 Lions Tour, Gerald Davies, summed up what it means to be a fan on tour:
“The fans will be there in their thousands, standing together, singing their songs. It doesn’t matter if it’s ‘Jerusalem’, ‘The Fields of Athenry’, ‘Flower of Scotland’ or ‘Land of my Fathers’, fans come together as one to support the Lions.”
And that’s what Lions Rugby Travel helped create. The Lions’ official travel company prided itself in delivering the defining Lions experience.
“To me, the Lions represent the spirit, values and principles of rugby football. Four countries come together as one with a purpose to win and to me it is that comradeship, sportsmanship and bond that makes the Lions so special,” Davies continued.
And the fans felt the same. From Leicester to Limerick, Cardiff to Glasgow, more than 35,000 Lions flooded Australia to make memories and friends.
Phillip and his wife Fiona booked a bespoke first and second Test package.
“The great thing about booking officially is that everything is accounted for,” Phillip said. “The support network we have had from booking to Tour delivery has been fantastic.
“I even made a call at 2am Australia time, forgetting Hannah (Tour co-ordinator) was already away but there was no problem answering the question – nothing has been too much trouble and there is a great reassurance about booking officially with Lions Rugby Travel.
“Being part of a Lions Tour is a special experience and we wanted to be part of that again. You are aware of the heritage and history that goes into making The Lions and that’s what makes it so important to us.”
Thomas Evans, from Cardiff added: “It was the best holiday experience I have ever had. You visit a fantastic country following the sport you love – it doesn’t get better than that and Lions Rugby Travel made it happen.
“The service, quality and experience was second to none – Lions Rugby Travel helped make our Lions experience, it’s as simple as that.”
